Cold Sculpting Q & A
What is CoolSculpting?
Coolsculpting is an FDA-cleared, noninvasive body-sculpting procedure that uses cryolipolysis to help you get rid of stubborn pockets of unwanted body fat. CoolSculpting uses innovative technology to freeze your subdermal fat – without harming your skin – which damages the cells so your body can process and remove them with other waste products. Dr. Allingham uses CoolSculpting on a variety of trouble spots, including your:
- Sides, including muffin tops and love handles
- Inner and outer thighs
- Upper arms
- Double chin
CoolSculpting treatments are safe and effective. In clinical studies, it has been shown to remove 20-25%* of the targeted fat cells.
How does CoolSculpting work?
Dr. Alllingham uses the CoolSculpting equipment to deliver controlled cooling to freeze your unwanted fat cells. Your fat crystalizes when it’s frozen, which kills the fat cells. Then over the weeks following your CoolSculpting treatment, your body processes and removes the dead fat cells, leaving you with a more slim and toned appearance.
Who is a good candidate for CoolSculpting?
If you’re in good health and close to your desired body weight, but struggling to tone your stomach or other trouble spots on your body, you are probably an excellent candidate for CoolSculpting treatments. CoolSculpting is designed to get rid of unwanted pockets of fat. It’s not a weight-loss procedure.
Dr. Allingham provides consultations before recommending CoolSculpting fat-removal procedures. In addition to performing a physical exam, he explains the treatment in detail and can answer any questions you have about how it works and what to expect.
What should I expect during a CoolSculpting treatment?
During your CoolSculpting procedure, you relax in a comfortable treatment chair. Dr. Allingham applies a gel pad to the part of your body you want to target and attaches the CoolSculpting applicator device. After Dr. Allingham turns on the CoolSculpting device, your skin will get cold, and you might notice a mild suction on your skin. After five to 10 minutes, most patients go numb.
Depending on your needs, your session may take 35-60 minutes. CoolSculpting is usually well tolerated. You can read, work on a laptop computer, or even nap during your treatment. The procedure is noninvasive, and you don’t need to take any time off to recover when your treatment is complete.
